Will you please stop calling it a hobby,playing my guitar is a hobby I am not trying to make a living at the guitar.Call indie work,Art work,but hobby is lame.Hobby is for ones who just keep doing the same little movie over again and showing mom/dad.I am growing with my Film Co.Learning about ads,theater to show it,self-marketing,making prints.It is a full time jobs.So I don't get pay.Is the Olympian Athlete who work hard for years and Year,puting money in training,equipment a hobby? Hobby I lift weights that's a hobby,I go to the track that's a hobby.I put my blood sweat in to filmmaking.I also feel if you think as it as a hobby and not work.I just don't feel a person would grow.

The problem nowadays is that with cheap nonlinear editing being available , especially in the mac computer range, everyone and their granny can string a few shots together and think they are a filmmaker............WRONG. Everyone has access to a piece of paper and pen but we are not all van gogh.

Your right anyone can say they are a filmmaker,but are they growing trying to make a living ,doing it better taking risk.That's the diffrent from the dreamer and doer!!!You got to grow and show it to the people.

Ok I am here to be shot down, but this is my opinion.
Those of us whoose 'hobby' it is to make film/movie/videos are doing it for the love of it. That makes us ALL ameteurs. Has anyone on here been paid for a flm that they made? Was anyone at Cannes the other week selling their latest flick? I doubt it. So why do most of you have a fit when soemone says something less then encouraging about anything? Even in jest...
Well for me making films should be fun as well as being taken seriously. And if anyone want to set me up as some ignorant tyke who comes on here to be negative...well take your best shot...heres the target..on my back..LOL..

We make films don't we-s o we are filmmakers- or maybe video makers. We are somone who makes films- so we are a filmmaker. We are what we are in our minds- it doesn't matter what snobs think- if you think you're a filmmaker- then my god you are a filmmaker. or maybe some nut in a mental home- who has a fantasy about being a filmmaker, but I think everyone on this list actually makes films. Doing corporate stuff will get you paid work- dunno if it would class you as a pro though
